Location of the chalet village
The Almdorf Reiteralm & Almhotel Edelweiss belongs to the municipality of Schladming, district Pichl in the Dachstein region on the western edge of Styria and is located on a high plateau at 1.200 meters above sea level. Surrounded by lush alpine pastures and fragrant forests, it offers an impressive panoramic view of the Ennstal, the Hohe Dachstein at 2.996 meters and the entire mountain backdrop of the Dachstein, one of Austria's eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The 18 comfort alpine huts, including six comfort alpine huts Enzian Deluxe, and twelve premium chalets in the four-star mountain village nestle against the mountainside on different levels on four hectares. The six cuddly chalets Kaiseralm and Kaiserin, which opened in July 2019, provide even more romance and are complemented by an adults-only natural swimming pond. The center of the village action is the Almhotel Edelweiss with its forecourt and fountain. Due to the altitude and seclusion of the Almdorf, guests will find a retreat in the middle of nature. The tourist infrastructure leaves nothing to be desired: Located directly on the slopes, you can reach the entrance to the Amadé ski area in a few minutes and in the summer months it is an Eldorado for mountain bikers and hikers.

Unterkofler brothers - vacation as we like it ourselves!

"Decisive for the architecture of the alpine huts were our thoughts on how we like to spend our holidays. So the huts made of our favorite raw material should be wood and in the middle of nature, but at the same time practical and comfortable. The skis should find their place as well as the suitcases. A kitchen with a large table, comfortable sofas and our own sauna contribute to a perfect holiday with friends and family. With the new premium category, we have created even more generous living space for our guests. The chalets boast more exclusive materials, highlights such as their own wellness pot on the veranda and large glass fronts for an unobstructed view of nature." |
Our Philosophy
The raw material wood has always played a significant role for the Unterkofler brothers. Thus, the family is already in the third generation working in timber construction. Other forest areas, including in the area around Schladming, were added over the years. Most of the exclusive chalets are built with wood from their own farm. From an ecological point of view, the decision was made to build a wood-chip cogeneration plant. Wood waste from the family business is used here and supplies the Almdorf with energy all year round.
Premium Chalets
The Almdorf Reiteralm was created by 2006 with the construction of 18 comfortable alpine huts and the cozy Almhotel Edelweiss. Up to 2012, there were twelve premium chalets with even more living comfort and exquisite features. The premium homes are between 119 and 300 square feet and can accommodate from four to 22 persons. They have a living room with open fireplace, sofa and reading chair. The kitchen from solid wood with oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher, refrigerator and high-quality coffee leaves nothing to be desired. A large wooden table with corner bench invites you to socialize. The bedroom also contains solid wood furniture. Each bedroom has an extra bathroom with shower and toilet.
The children's rooms are separated from the parents' bedroom by a sliding door and offer a bunk bed for two children each. Guests can relax in the wellness area with a Finnish sauna and comfortable loungers. The hot pot is waiting on the wooden veranda. Inside, too, nature is the focus for the Unterkofler family. Real wood from local woods such as spruce, larch and pine as well as natural stone is used everywhere and exudes warmth and cosiness. The walls were partially set in scene with lime plaster and white wall paint. Large windows give a view of the surrounding mountains. Lampshades and stools made of fur, fluffy pillows, high-quality mattresses and bed linen create a cozy atmosphere.
Cuddle Chalets
Six cuddly chalets have been adding to the ensemble since July 2019. Original old wood, gray Rauris natural stone for the floor coverings, tiles and wash basins as well as natural loden form the basis for the furnishings. The well-known "Schladminger" loden, a gray pearl loden paired with the color green, served as a source of inspiration for the choice of color. Black and white photos from bygone days of (ski) tourism in the Dachstein region, self-made lamps with green loden and a fireplace integrated into the wall set cozy accents. From the rooms and the outdoor wellness tub, guests have a wonderful panoramic view of the Dachstein. For a long time it was considered whether the panoramic view is not enough television. Ultimately, however, Reinhold Unterkofler did not do without the TV set and came up with something special: Swinging on a black pole, it serves as a picture in the hallway and fulfills its actual purpose in the living room. The two cuddly Kaiserin chalets with 68 square meters for two people impress with a free-standing bathtub and a sauna area. The four cuddly chalets Kaiseralm with 96 square meters offer space for up to four people and have an exclusive wellness area with shower and a Finnish old wood panorama sauna.
Comfort huts
The eighteen comfort mountain huts made of solid wood are divided into two categories. The sixteen Enzian alpine huts are 105 square meters in size and can accommodate two to eight people. Six of these alpine huts have been converted into new comfort alpine huts Enzian Deluxe through an expanded wellness area with its own sauna, relaxation loungers and hot-pot on the terrace. In the two Dachstein huts, up to 18 people feel at home on 204 square meters.
All alpine huts have a solid wood kitchen with ceramic hob, oven, refrigerator and dishwasher as well as an open-plan dining and living area with a large wooden table and a cozy sofa for socializing in front of the fireplace. The processing of real wood from local woods in combination with colored contrasts in red and green ensures cosiness in the alpine huts. Guests can relax in the wellness area with a Finnish sauna and shower. TV, radio and WiFi as well as a ski and ski boot room are also part of the equipment. The alpine huts differ in the number and distribution of bathrooms and bedrooms, which also contain solid wood furniture. The comfort Almhütte Enzian has two bedrooms with double beds and another room with a bunk bed and a pull-out couch as well as a spacious bathroom with shower, toilet and double washbasin. At the Comfort Almhütte Dachstein, six bedrooms, three spacious bathrooms and a separate toilet are spread over two floors.
Almhotel Edelweiss
The Almhotel Edelweiss is the heart of the Almdorf with its village square, reception, restaurant and wellness area. This is where young and old meet at the village fountain in front of the hotel to start skiing and tobogganing fun in winter and to go on hiking tours in summer.
In winter, the day's experiences are exchanged over a mulled wine by the campfire or at the hotel bar. Guests who want the comfort and service of a hotel book one of the 13 rooms and two suites in a country house style. Here, too, the Unterkofler family attached great importance to the use of local woods paired with colored contrasts in green and red. Individual walls were staged with lime plaster and white wall paint. All rooms and suites have a double bed, TV, WiFi and an attached bathroom. The panorama rooms, double rooms classic and double rooms deluxe are for two people with a wonderful view of the mountains. The equipment in the deluxe double room has been expanded to include a pull-out couch and can therefore be booked for up to four people. The bio comfort rooms with balcony, whose design consists of old wood and stone pine, offer a family sufficient living comfort with a double bed and bunk bed. The Enzian Suite for two to five people has a double and single bed as well as a separate living area with a loft bed. A panoramic balcony and a private sun terrace invite you to relax. The Edelweiss Suite has a bedroom, a cozy living room with a reading corner, a bathtub and a panoramic balcony for two to four people.
Culinary
The kitchen team at the Almhotel Edelweiss takes care of the culinary well-being of the guests within walking distance of all chalets. In the morning, guests can expect a vitality buffet, while in the evening they can choose a la carte from regional delicacies and specialties from the Styrian cuisine. The huts can also be booked as self-catering. There are shops in Schladming. The small village shop of the Hotel Edelweiss has snacks, drinks, hygiene articles, souvenirs, and much more ... ready for a cozy evening. The residents of the mountain huts borrow barbecues free of charge, so there is nothing to prevent a private barbecue evening on your own terrace. Those who prefer to enjoy steaks and sausages in company are welcome in the Almdorf's grill pavilion. Here young and old meet for a cozy get-together at the fireplace. It is up to the guest whether they prefer to enjoy their meal in peace and quiet or just a few meters away in a sociable atmosphere.
Wellness:
The wellness area of the small Almhotel with sauna, steam bath, Kneipp basin, panorama whirlpool and a spa treatment room is available to guests on request. Here, the team pampers you with various massages such as full-body and partial-body massages, and specific areas of the body can be catered for on request. In summer, a natural swimming pond with a spacious lawn for families and a second adults-only natural swimming pond inspire.
Summer activities
The region is varied in summer with more than 1.000 kilometers of hiking trails and just as many cycle and mountain bike routes. The via ferratas on the south walls of the Dachstein ensure a variety of sports. The free Schladming-Dachstein Summer Card invites you to experience more than 100 attractions for free and offers a further 100 bonus services in the areas of sport, culture, transport and family. Holidays in Almdorf are particularly popular with families. You will not only find generous living space, but also lots of exciting outdoor activities. An adventure playground with an area of 5.000 square meters, the village forest, a soccer field, a balancing course, a paddling pond with a water path, a petting zoo, a campfire area, a barbecue pavilion, a mini farm, go carts, ponies and llamas await children and young people. Pony rides, grilling bread on sticks at the grill pavilion and archery in the village are free several times a week during your stay. Nordic walking and mountain bike fans experience varied hours on accompanying tours.
Winter activities
As the venue for the 2013 Alpine World Ski Championships, the region is one of the top Alpine addresses for winter sports fans. 230 kilometers of slopes and 85 modern cable cars and chairlifts in the middle of the Ski amadé ski network offer unlimited fun in the snow. Holidaymakers start directly from the front door to the ski areas Hochwurzen, Planai, Reiteralm and Hauser Kaibling. Almdorf guests can take the skidoo up the mountain and then take a rapid sleigh ride over the 4,2 kilometer illuminated toboggan run back to the Almdorf.
A worldwide unique attraction awaits the guests since 2017 a permanent ski cross route. The PRINOTH X Crosspark Reiteralm is located in the middle of the Reiteralm ski area, the start is near the mountain stations of the Preunegg Jet gondola and the Seppn Jet 4-seater chairlift. The Reiteralm Bergbahnen are implementing this project together with their partner, the Unterkofler family, and on the initiative of Willi Zechner. The PRINOTH X Crosspark Reiteralm offers two separate lines: a varied, long and sporty route for the whole family as well as its own top-equipped cross route suitable for the World Cup, which is primarily available to top athletes.
The après-ski huts run by the Unterkofler family invite you to stop off at the Hochalm at 1.600 meters and the Lena Alm at 1.400 meters. So that the little ones can also become excellent skiers, the host offers a Skidoo transfer from the Almdorf to the children's ski area at the Reiteralm mountain station. Equipped with a magic carpet, children's routes with fairy tale and Viking characters, practice meadows and lifts, the children's area is an ideal meeting point and practice area for ski courses of all levels of difficulty including lunch with the ski instructors.
