Location of the chalet village

The Almdorf Reiteralm & Almhotel Edelweiss belongs to the municipality of Pichl near Schladming in the Dachstein region on the western edge of Styria and is located on a high plateau in 1.200 elevation meters. Surrounded by lush pastures and fragrant forests, it offers impressive panoramic views of the Schladming Valley, the Hohe Dachstein with 2.996 meters and the entire mountain range of the Dachstein, one of the eight Austrian UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The 18 Comfort Alpine Huts, including six Comfortable Alpine Huts Enzian Deluxe, and twelve premium chalets in the four-star mountain village nestle on four levels on various levels on the mountainside. The six cuddly chalets Kaiseralm and Kaiserin, which opened 2019 in July, add even more romance, complemented by an adults-only natural bathing pond. The heart of the village is the Almhotel Edelweiss with its forecourt and fountain. Due to the altitude and seclusion of the Almdorfes guests will find a retreat in the midst of nature. The tourist infrastructure leaves nothing to be desired: Located directly on the slopes, you can reach in a few minutes the entrance to the ski Amadé and in the summer months, it is an Eldorado for mountain bikers and hikers.

The biggest sports event 2013 took place with the Alpine Ski World Championships in Schladming. The ski slope has since been prepared for the international FIS night skiing World Cup. This will be held right after the traditional Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel in January. But not only winter sports enthusiasts get their money's worth. Even in summer, the alpine landscape with hiking trails, via ferrata and many recreational opportunities for families like the fairy tale path Ramsau, the Dachstein Ice Palace and the adventure Park Planai. Ramsau am Dachstein, Planai and Filzmoos are only about 15 to 30 drive away. The Mozart city of Salzburg and Hallstatt on Lake Hallstatt can be reached in about an hour's drive. Unterkofler brothers - vacation as we like it ourselves!

The owners of Almdorf Reiteralm in Schladming "Decisive for the architecture of the alpine huts were our thoughts on how we like to spend our holidays. So the huts made of our favorite raw material should be wood and in the middle of nature, but at the same time practical and comfortable. The skis should find their place as well as the suitcases. A kitchen with a large table, comfortable sofas and our own sauna contribute to a perfect holiday with friends and family. With the new premium category, we have created even more generous living space for our guests. The chalets boast more exclusive materials, highlights such as their own wellness pot on the veranda and large glass fronts for an unobstructed view of nature."

Our Philosophy

The raw material wood has always played a significant role for the Unterkofler brothers. Thus, the family is already in the third generation working in timber construction. Other forest areas, including in the area around Schladming, were added over the years. Most of the exclusive chalets are built with wood from their own farm. From an ecological point of view, the decision was made to build a wood-chip cogeneration plant. Wood waste from the family business is used here and supplies the Almdorf with energy all year round.

Premium Chalets

The Almdorf Reiteralm was created by 2006 with the construction of 18 comfortable alpine huts and the cozy Almhotel Edelweiss. Up to 2012, there were twelve premium chalets with even more living comfort and exquisite features. The premium homes are between 119 and 300 square feet and can accommodate from four to 22 persons. They have a living room with open fireplace, sofa and reading chair. The kitchen from solid wood with oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher, refrigerator and high-quality coffee leaves nothing to be desired. A large wooden table with corner bench invites you to socialize. The bedroom also contains solid wood furniture. Each bedroom has an extra bathroom with shower and toilet.

The children's rooms are separated from the master bedroom by a sliding door and offer a bunk bed for every two children. Guests will find relaxation in the wellness area with Finnish sauna and comfort loungers. The wellness pot is waiting on the wooden veranda. Inside, too, the Unterkofler family is focussed on nature. Real wood from local woods such as spruce, larch and pine as well as natural stone is used everywhere and exudes warmth and coziness. The walls were partially staged with lime plaster and white wall paint. Large windows give a view of the surrounding mountains. Fur shades and stools, fluffy pillows, plush mattresses and linens all create a cozy atmosphere.

Cuddle Chalets

Since July 2019 six cuddle chalets complement the ensemble. Original old wood, gray Rauriser natural stone for the floor coverings, tiles and sinks as well as natural loams form the basis for the furnishings. As a source of inspiration for the choice of color was the well-known "Schladminger" Loden, a gray pearl loden, paired with the color green. Homely accents set black-and-white photographs from the past of (ski) tourism in the Dachstein region, self-made lamps with green loden and a fireplace integrated into the wall. From the rooms and the wellness tub outdoors, guests have a wonderful panoramic view of the Dachstein. It has long been considered whether the panoramic view is not enough television. In the end, however, Reinhold Unterkofler did not abandon the device and thought of something special: oscillating on a black pole, it serves as a picture in the hallway and in the living room it fulfills its true purpose. The two cuddly chalets Empress with 68 square meters for two people with a free-standing bathtub and a sauna area. The four cuddly Kaiseralm chalets with 96 square meters can accommodate up to four people and have an exclusive spa area with a shower and a Finnish old-wood panoramic sauna.

Comfort huts

The eighteen solid-wood comfort cabins are divided into two categories. The sixteen gentian huts are 105 square meters in size and can accommodate from two to eight people. Six of these alpine huts have been rebuilt and expanded into a wellness area with its own sauna, relaxation loungers and a wellness pot on the terrace, leading to the new comfortable Alpine huts Enzian Deluxe. In the two alpine huts Dachstein feel up to 18 persons on 204 square meters well.

All cabins have a solid wood kitchen with ceramic hob, oven, fridge and dishwasher, as well as an open-plan dining and living area with a large wooden table and a pull-out couch for social gathering in front of the woodburning stove. For cosiness in the mountain huts, the processing of real wood from local woods in combination with colorful contrasts in red and green. Guests can relax in the wellness area with Finnish sauna and shower. A TV, radio and Wi-Fi as well as a ski and ski boot room are also included. The mountain huts differ in the number and layout of the bath and bedroom, which are also solid wood furniture. The comfortable mountain lodge Enzian has two bedrooms with double bed and another room with a bunk bed and a pull-out couch, as well as a spacious bathroom with shower, toilet and double sink. The comfort Almhütte Dachstein has six bedrooms and three spacious bathrooms and a separate toilet on two floors.
